The Christian Science activities carried on at the State...

The Christian Science activities carried on at the State Prison Farm near Bordentown include the holding of services every Sunday afternoon at three o'clock and the distribution of the literature after each service. Copies of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and other works by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, are placed in the library and also in the hands of many of the men who are earnest students.

The attendant in charge of the prison library has reported that the works of Mrs. Eddy are in constant demand and, in fact, were among the most-read books in the library. One man who had been borrowing the textbook from the library found this an unsatisfactory way, as he could not keep the book as long as he desired, so he was furnished with a copy for his own use by the Committee.

The State Reformatory at Annandale is an institution where young men who are first offenders are sent, so that they may thus be segregated from those who have criminal records. A committee is carrying on helpful work here. When the Christian Science services were first started here they were held only once a month, but this method did not seem to accomplish the good desired, so the committee, with the Field Secretary, interviewed the superintendent, and with his co-operation a Christian Science service is now being held every week instead of once a month. This change has resulted in an increased attendance and interest.
