Releasing the Captives of Sense

On page 225 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy says, "Men and women of all climes and races are still in bondage to material sense, ignorant how to obtain their freedom."

A story is related, disclosing how monkeys are captured by the natives of a certain island. An aperture, just large enough to admit the paw of the monkey, is made in a pumpkin. The monkey reaches in to get the seeds. With the paw closed on the seeds it cannot be withdrawn, and not knowing enough to let go, the monkey holds on, and through this holding on is captured.

Not infrequently we are led into captivity by accepting and retaining in consciousness false material beliefs. If only we knew enough to let go! Deliverance and freedom are acquired by the letting-go process, inspired by Truth.
