Illimitable Light

One who may be entertaining the fear of impending loss of sight might well ponder the meaning of light in connection with sight. One definition of material light is "the radiant energy which, by its action upon the organs of vision, enables them to perform their functions of sight."

In its figurative significance, light is mental or spiritual illumination or enlightenment. The Bible contains many inspiring passages referring to spiritual light. God gave the command, "Let there be light." Further, we read that "God is light, and in him is no darkness at all." We are also told that we "are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness." Thus, as we endeavor to apprehend the significance of light as spiritual illumination, we can understand that there is no dimness in the full effulgence of God's glory. Since God is ever present, man forever walks in the radiance of His presence.

Impairment of sight denotes a belief of limitation. The infinity of spiritual sight is shown in the definition of God, as stated by Mary Baker Eddy on page 587 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures": "God. The great I am; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence."
