Distance is no obstacle to divine Mind

Distance is no obstacle to divine Mind. About twenty years ago, while we were living in a foreign country, our baby was healed by Christian Science treatment.

After a consultation of doctors, we had given up all hope of saving the little one. The nearest practitioner of whom I knew was fifteen hundred miles away. I wrote a letter asking for treatment for the baby. The healing must have been instantaneous, for he began to improve just as soon as the letter could have been received.

I want to mention another healing which occurred at the same time, but I did not recognize it as a healing or realize its importance until many years later. A relative-in-law whom I thought I did not love, and who was not welcome in my home, called unexpectedly, and on seeing how ill the baby seemed to be, began to cry with me; and she and I embraced each other warmly and with love. For over a month the baby had not been able to retain any food or water, but from then on he began to retain everything and improved steadily.

Not many days later the city in which we lived was partly destroyed by earthquakes. We had to leave our home and live out in a little central park under a tent made of sheets. The city being situated high up in the mountains, the air is always rather cold. We had no way of getting milk for the baby and had to feed him with chocolate and any other food we could get. The water pipes were damaged, and the only water we had came from a pool in the little park where many people were crowded. Nevertheless, our baby continued to improve and thrive through it all, and his cheeks became so rosy that I fearfully touched them to see if he was feverish, but each time found that it was an evidence of health I saw there. Although the earthquakes lasted for over four weeks we did not lack food, and were even able to share what we had with others. We were able to leave the park about the end of the third week.

I am very grateful for these healings. I feel such gratitude for the patient and loving practitioner who has come to our aid so many times. I am grateful for Christian Science and to God, to Christ Jesus, to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and to all who have helped me and mine; also for membership in The Mother Church and in a Christian Science Society. I do hope that this testimony will help someone.
