Through reading the testimonies in the chapter entitled...

Through reading the testimonies in the chapter entitled "Fruitage," in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I received my first conclusive proof that Christian Science is the restatement of primitive Christianity.

One day, while I was preparing for a trip, a dear friend, who had been patiently telling me of the good news of Christian Science, came in and urged me to take along my newly purchased textbook. About a week later I remembered the book in my suitcase, and being obliged to wait several hours while my husband made a business call, I began to read. I read a paragraph here and there, but failed to grasp the meaning, although I recognized the poetic beauty of the words. Turning to the last chapter I came upon the letters from people who had been healed simply by reading the book. To my surprise I found several in which the writers claimed complete healing of the very ills which were then making my days miserable. I knew they were telling the truth, for their sincere and simple statements rang with conviction, and I began to perceive that a quality called "understanding" was stressed.

Suddenly my thought was illumined, and fervently I prayed aloud, "O God, give me the understanding which these people have found." In the profound stillness I sat listening, and such peace and assurance flowed into my consciousness that it could be likened only to the blessed reply of Christ Jesus, "I will; be thou clean."
