I am profoundly grateful to our Father-Mother God that I was led to Christian Science, because it is a practical religion, and, when properly applied, heals the sick, as did Christ Jesus and his followers, nineteen centuries ago. Before coming into Christian Science, I suffered from asthma in its worst form. At times I could hardly breathe, and I often felt as though I should pass on.

While working in Philadelphia, I went to a hospital for an examination, and a staff of ten physicians pronounced the case to be a very severe one. They also stated that the valves of the heart were badly affected. They said I could not live longer than three months, and they would not vouch for my safety after I left the hospital. Another staff of physicians, in New York, told me the same story. This took place about twenty-five years ago. Shortly after the examination, I met a woman in New York who was a Christian Scientist. She noticed that I was suffering from asthma, and recommended that I try Christian Science. When I told her that I had never heard of this religion, she kindly told me something about its teachings and how the healings are accomplished. What she said appealed to me, and I immediately went to a practitioner and asked for treatment, which was lovingly given. I am grateful to say that I was healed during the first treatment.

In 1917, I climbed one of the highest volcanoes in Mexico, the Popocatepetl, without experiencing any difficulty in breathing. This proved to me that the healing was permanent. Later I was healed of the effects of poison gas, which I had inhaled in a copper smelter; also of yellow fever, which I contracted while I was on board a steamer in Colon, Panama.
