Christian Science came into my life some twenty years...

Christian Science came into my life some twenty years ago. After many weary years, during which dependence upon medical means failed to bring relief, my mother was healed through the work of a consecrated Christian Science practitioner. So convincing to me was this demonstration that shortly afterward I purchased a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and began its study. Almost the first reading of this book released me from the fear of eternal condemnation, and of frequent attacks of high fever, which had oppressed me since early childhood. I gained the comforting certainty that God is our loving Father-Mother, and that all His children are forever held safe "in the secret place of the most High."

I have had much for which to be grateful since Christian Science came into my experience. Much error has been dissolved; a quick temper and cutting tongue were curbed when I gained through Christian Science the desire to practice the Golden Rule. Acute nervousness and fear have been replaced by an increasing measure of poise and forgetfulness of self. Chronic constipation has been totally eliminated, and periodically recurring attacks of sore throat disappeared years ago. I owe much gratitude to the loyal and consecrated Christian Science practitioners who, with unfailing patience, have helped me over many hard places so lovingly.

About two years after beginning the study of Christian Science, I was busy in the winter hauling coal. One very cold night I arrived at a mine after nightfall to discover that there was no place for my four weary horses to shelter. I finally approached a large farmhouse to see if accommodation could be had there. The owner, however, told me curtly that his barns were filled with his own stock. I slowly went back to where my horses stood waiting, and turned to God completely, trying to realize what I had learned in Christian Science—that God provides all needful things for all His ideas. I then felt definitely impelled to retrace my steps, and there came to me with the distinctness of uttered speech the words, "Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine."
