Among the Churches

Current Notes

Syracuse, New York (Second Church and Society).—Merger of Second Church of Christ, Scientist, 2507 James Street, and Christian Science Society, 1704 South Salina Street, was announced at the morning services of the two churches on Sunday, February 19, 1939.

The combined organization has retained the name of Second Church of Christ, Scientist, Syracuse. The first service of the consolidated church was held in the reception room of Syracuse Museum of Fine Arts, at James and North State Streets, on Sunday morning, March 5. The two organizations were both recognized branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.

The merger was voted unanimously at a joint meeting of the two memberships in February, 1939, and a complete reorganization was effected, within the charter of Second Church. Both organizations had been in existence about six years, and obtained simultaneous recognition as branch societies of The Mother Church on September 25, 1934. The present Second Church subsequently applied for full church status, and obtained its charter on February 1, 1935.—Post-Standard.
