I took up the study of Christian Science for the healing...
I took up the study of Christian Science for the healing of neuritis in my hands and arms, from which I had suffered for about two years. The neuritis had not yielded to medical treatment, and I was told by a nerve specialist in London that the difficulty would in all probability be permanent. I was finally willing to try Christian Science, and a friend recommended a practitioner, whom I went to see. I asked the practitioner for a treatment, and on leaving his home I went to a Reading Room. There I bought the first copy of the Bible I had ever owned, also a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. When I awoke the next morning I was entirely free from pain. Not for some time afterwards did I realize that I had been free from pain from the moment I was given the treatment. The healing has permanent over over a number of years, and I have been able to do anything I have been able to do anything I have wanted to do with my hands.
I became very much interested in Christian Science, and studied a great deal in the Reading Rooms, which opportunity I appreciated enormously. During the first week of my study I lost all desire to smoke, though previously I had smoked up to seventy cigarettes a day. This healing was completed at the first lecture on Christian Science which I attended, and to this day I remember some of the points in that lecture, and how interested I was in it.
I have been able to overcome extreme nervousness and timidity through the teachings of Christian Science. In "Retrospection and Introspection" Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 70), "Each individual must fill his own niche in time and eternity." This statement has been of great help to me.
