Divine Ideas and True Individuality

[Original article in French]

Day by day reason and common sense are undermining the popular belief in a corporeal and physical God, and today it may be said that Christendom no longer believes in such a God. Men logically conclude that since God is not material He cannot be other than Spirit. But, on the other hand, they believe in the reality of a material universe and a corporeal man, because they appear to be visible and tangible to the material senses.

This, generally speaking, is the state of mind of those who begin to study Christian Science. As soon as they have taken cognizance of its basic teachings, they discover that while it is easy for them to admit the spiritual nature of God, and the essentially spiritual nature of the universe and man, it is much more difficult for them to understand the unreality of material sense. However, if the student is persevering and open minded, he will gain this understanding through apprehending the truths contained in the textbook of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.

This Science takes as its starting point the fact that God is the one and only cause, the creative Principle of all that really exists, and it defines this Cause as infinite Mind, Life, Truth, Love, the only intelligence and substance.
