Spiritual Sense Testifies

"Testimony in regard to the healing of the sick is highly important. More than a mere rehearsal of blessing, it scales the pinnacle of praise and illustrates the demonstration of Christ, 'who healeth all thy diseases' (Psalm 103:3)." These words in Article VIII, Section 24, of the Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, show the paramount importance to the Church of Christ, Scientist, of its Wednesday evening meetings, which include reading from the Bible and Science and Health, the giving by members of the congregations of testimonies of healing, helpful experiences, and remarks on Christian Science.

Many recipients of the blessings of Christian Science who could witness to its healing power, and who earnestly desire to do so—indeed, who realize that it is their duty and privilege thus to repay their debt of gratitude—nevertheless seem unable to rise above the mesmerism which appears to keep them silent when the invitation to testify is given. However, it should be realized that not only is it of importance to the Cause of Christian Science that those healed and blessed through its ministrations should not withhold their testimonies, but it is essential to their own spiritual growth or unfoldment that they should remove those impediments which find expression in such unnatural reluctance.

Let us examine more closely the nature of this mesmerism; in other words, the specific false beliefs and errors which must be destroyed before the giving of a testimony becomes the joy of glorifying God.
