Milngavie and Bearsden Herald

In your recent issue a correspondent, under the pseudonym of "The Chiel," asks for enlightenement on the subject of Christian Science. Your correspondent appears to have read or listened to a recent lecture on Christian Science.

I do not propose to enter on a theological argument with "The Chiel," but I notice that many of his objections to Christian Science arise from his disinclination to recognize that the Scriptures have a spiritual interpretation. Without this recognition it is impossible to understand the teachings of Christian Science. Mrs. Eddy writes (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 547): "The Scriptures are very sacred. Our aim must be to have them understood spiritually, for only by this understanding can truth be gained."

Through study of the Christian Science textbook, Christian Scientists find that they can understand the Scriptures, and prove their teaching practical in every detail of human experience. Through the ministrations of this Science the sick are healed, the sinning are reformed, and the spiritually dead are awakened.
