Spiritual Compensation

In the book of Jeremiah we read, "After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people." Those who have a demonstrable understanding of Christian Science are able to say, in Bible language, "This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears," for Christian Science is the discovery of the truth of being. Through it Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, has revealed to humanity for all time the divine Principle of spiritual existence, with the laws and rules through which it is to be demonstrated.

Matter, which students of material systems explore in their search for truth, is found to be unreal, its seeming existence being only the phenomena of false human belief—evidence of lack of spiritual understanding. In Christian Science, matter is understood to be a negative state of thought. A false belief is never real, since it can be utterly destroyed by the truth; and when a specific false belief is fully destroyed, it ceases to have any apparent manifestation.

To reach the divine state of being revealed in Christian Science, demands two things—knowledge and practice. That is, we must know what constitutes real being, and then live it. Christian Science reveals God to be Life, Spirit, Mind. It also declares God to be infinite. Therefore, the only real life is spiritual. Infinite Spirit, Life, leaves no place for anything unlike itself—no place for matter. Hence, the material universe, including mortal, material man, is not God's universe or the real man. Consequently, when one commences his study of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," it dawns upon him that many of his preconceived notions of material living are no longer tenable; and if he is honest in his search for Truth and Life, he forsakes much of that which previously seemed alarming or else pleasurable. Frequently, some of these false beliefs disappear rapidly. Others may seem more tenacious; and a struggle often ensues when error is confronted with the spiritual idea, which eventually destroys it. With increasing spiritual vision and humility one proves that Truth is always victorious.
