Good, the Reality
The student of Christian Science discovers that there is awakened in his consciousness a recognition of the fact that the creative, governing, directing Principle of man and the universe is constructive, intelligent, beneficent, supreme, and entirely good. Further study and constructive reasoning reveal the fact that the Mind or cause of all real existence or creation does not contain or know an element of evil or error. The Mind which is altogether good could not entertain or be conscious of anything contrary to good. Therefore, it is realized that Deity, God, Mind, the creator of the universe, is entirely good, without an element of evil or knowledge of evil. This conclusion is in agreement with the statement in Habakkuk, "Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity."
The student, however, sees conditions which appear definitely contrary to this high and true view. According to mortal sense, he finds himself and others enmeshed in evil conditions, and these appear to be very real, disturbing, and fearful. Physical sense argues that there are evil situations and conditions present, and that they are real and powerful, occupying time and space and having a bad influence.
It is evident that error or evil is opposed to good. Therefore a knowledge of evil is self-destructive. Mortal experiences and educational processes have accepted the conclusion that evil is real and present; and in his consideration of the subject the student may be temporarily mesmerized by these false conclusions. It dawns upon him, however, that because of his recognition, in some degree, of the truth that God, the substance, intelligence, and creative power of the universe, is wholly good, he must take his stand on the side of God, good, alone.
