Your desire to avoid religious controversy is commendable, but exception must be taken to various statements in an article in a recent issue, for these statements do not correctly present the teachings of Christian Science.

Healing the sick was an essential part of the teachings and practice of Christ Jesus. He destroyed functional and organic disease by spiritually mental means, and said. "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also." He sent out the twelve disciples, and later the seventy, instructing them to heal the sick. Furthermore, he indicated that they would be properly compensated, saying, "The labourer is worthy of his hire." Christian Scientists are observing Jesus' instructions by healing the sick. They are following a Christian procedure when they accept remuneration for their services, which ministers and religious workers of other denominations also do.

Christian Science is a renaissance of primitive Christianity. Christ Jesus did not use mental suggestion, and it has no place in Christian Science. Since this religion follows explicitly the words and works of Jesus, as set forth in the Bible, it has no relation to Gnosticism or neo-Christianity.
