When I learned of Christian Science, although still young, I was a mental and physical wreck. My life had been one of suffering from severe illness and the cares of life. I had had to give up my position as a teacher, since I was very ill with kidney and intestinal trouble, and also had a weak heart. The doctor held out little hope for my recovery. I was without means and dependent on the kindness of strangers. In this great distress divine Love found me. A lady who had heard of my sad condition came to my bedside one day and asked me if I did not want to read a book which would be very beneficial to me. When I said Yes, she brought me the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.

After reading but a few pages I began to understand how erroneous my previous thinking had been, and with childlike trust I turned to the protection of God's love. In two weeks I had read the book carefully twice from beginning to end. After that I felt no more pain and was able to get up. In a few days I was entirely well. The healing had taken place solely through the understanding of the truth which had been conveyed to me through the study of the textbook. At that time I did not know anything about treatment by practitioners or Christian Science church services and meetings.

A few weeks after my healing, the problem of supply was solved in a similarly glorious manner. From an unexpected source a rather large sum of money was advanced me for the purpose of founding a school. All professional and economic difficulties in that trying inflation period in Germany and the so-called economic crises were for me nonexistent—for did I not have Christian Science to help me?

In the course of the years, deeply rooted claims of sickness were overcome one after the other, including the tendency to take cold and to have abscesses. A case of scarlet fever complicated by erysipelas was healed in a week through the help of a practitioner. I was instantaneously healed of severe blood poisoning (septic infection) from a wasp sting, when I was in danger of losing my life. The understanding came to me in a flash that man as a divine idea cannot be separated for one moment from his creator, and therefore cannot be poisoned or injured.

Today I am a healthy and happy person, and though in a strenuous position in a foreign land, I am more capable of work than ever before.

I should like to express my deepest thanks for the many blessings which I have experience through Christian Science, and especially for my spiritual growth. I am grateful that we have in this city a group of Christian Scientists who hold Christian Science services; also for the opportunity I had of attending the services and testimony meetings in a branch church in Hamburg, Germany, when I was in my old home. There, too, Love helped me to prove this glorious teaching in the solution of two important problems.

Next to our Father-Mother God and to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, I thank our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who has given us the understanding of spiritual healing and opened up infinite possibilities.
