Demonstrating True Employment

In the world today much thought is being given to the subject of employment. A Christian Scientist endeavors to gain the true sense of activity and employment by elevating thought to the spiritual truth about this subject, as he does in everything else pertaining to human experience. By gaining the true idea of employment many have been enabled to secure active and permanent work, even in times of great turmoil and distress in the business world.

The Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, has written (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 203), "Our thoughts beget our actions; they make us what we are." The student of Christian Science readily sees that true employment is an activity in divine Mind, God, and he constantly reminds himself that his work is to keep himself at all times so actively employed with Godlike thoughts that no sense or fear of unemployment can enter his consciousness and be manifested in his human affairs. To him the belief of unemployment is just as erroneous as are sickness and sin, and he makes just as much effort to refrain from the acceptance of the argument of unemployment as he does that of other errors. He knows that his true business is to reflect God, and there is always a great need for the expression of good everywhere.

The only concept Jesus had of business was a Godlike one, for did he not describe his activity as being about his Father's business? The Christian Scientist accepts the example of the Master, who thus demonstrated true activity and showed forth man's God-given employment.
