Herald,

In your issue of October 1 there appears a letter on the subject of Christian Science by "Memnon," which I should like to ask for some space in your columns to reply to.

Your correspondent has clearly not grasped the nature of Christian Science or he could not have written of it as he has done. He says that Christian Science is "dogma," that it is "a copyrighted cult," that it resists investigation. Nothing could be farther from its real nature than these statements. Christian Science is not a dogma nor an invention; it is a discovery, a living, active, eternal reality, which has been and is being proved in the lives of thousands.

Christian Science cannot be copyrighted any more than mathematics or chemistry can be copyrighted, though all books about the latter two can be and generally are. So Mrs. Eddy's book "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," as well as her other writings, was copyrighted to maintain the correct statement of this Science and to authenticate it. Christian Science welcomes the very fullest investigation. The thousands of Christian Scientists in the world today are so only after making such an investigation and proving that its Principle is true and demonstrable.
