Christian Science is founded upon the Bible, and in accordance...

Word and Way,

Christian Science is founded upon the Bible, and in accordance therewith teaches that there is but one omnipotent and omnipresent God, who is infinite good, exhaustless Love, limitless Life; that He is Spirit, Soul, Principle, Mind, Truth, and that man is created in the image and likeness of God, as stated in the first chapter of Genesis. All that constitutes reality must therefore emanate from God and express His nature. It is therefore a self-evident fact that sickness, sin, disease, and death, not being good, could not have their origin in God. They are devoid of reality, although they may seem real to so-called mortal man; that is, to one who does not understand the true nature of God and the real, or spiritual, man.

The mission of Christ Jesus was to reveal to mankind the truth about God. He said, "This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." Again, the understanding of the truth, he declared, "shall make you free." He proved what he taught about God by healing sickness, sin, disease, and death, thus proving that God was not their author, and therefore they were not real. In the healing of the woman who had been bowed together for eighteen years, he referred to her as one "whom Satan hath bound." When informed of the death of Jairus' daughter, he declared, "She is not dead, but sleepeth;" and this understanding of the eternality and continuity of life enabled him to say with authority, "Maid, arise." And "her spirit came again, and she arose straightway."
