Christian Science came into my life over thirty years...
Christian Science came into my life over thirty years ago through my mother's healing of Bright's disease, after she had been a hopeless invalid for years. This healing brought me into Science and opened up new vistas hitherto unknown, giving me as a child a healthy, happy outlook on life.
I have so many things for which to be grateful to Christian Science that I can scarcely enumerate them. During the years I have experienced many physical healings. One which stands out is the healing of burns received when gas in a furnace exploded. On arising one morning, I found our house cold, and without waiting to ascertain whether or not the valves on the main line were open, I attempted to light the pilot. As the furnace was full of gas there was instantly a terrific explosion, and I found my clothes and hair on fire. Having extinguished the flames, after more than half of my clothing had been burned off, I became aware of extreme pain in my face, arms, and hands. I called a practitioner for help, stated what had occurred, and told her that my face seemed to be the most severely burned. I went immediately to my room, and as I lay down I realized that my face had been instantaneously healed. My maid, who had heard the explosion and had seen me as I passed through the kitchen, knocked on my door several times and asked if I were all right. Knowing that I depended entirely on Christian Science for healing, she was greatly concerned because, as she told me afterwards, she did not see how Christian Science was going to heal my face, which looked so alarming. The pain in my hands and arms subsided, and I fell asleep, awakening shortly before lunch. When I looked at myself in the mirror, I found my hair burned off for about five inches from around my face, I had no eyebrows nor eyelashes, and the hair was burned from inside my nostrils, but the skin on my face was natural and soft and of a normal color. Much fear was expressed by one member of my family who was not a Christian Scientist, and immediately my hands began to swell and the pain returned in such intensity that I again called the practitioner. The pain was overcome almost instantly, and the other inharmonious conditions disappeared one by one. Although the blood did not seem to circulate well through the veins and capillaries for several days, the hands and arms healed beautifully, no scars or discolorations being left. A few days after the explosion it was necessary for me to be present at a social function which required formal attire, and I not only attended but stood in a receiving line for some time. Also, at the end of a week I was able to play in a golf tournament in a distant city. I am so grateful for this healing.
I have also been healed of colds, influenza, typhoid fever, growths, headaches, and severe throat infection; and I have experienced almost painless childbirth. I shall never cease to be grateful for the help afforded me by Science during the illness and the passing on of a loved one.
