The Reward of Honesty

[Written Especially for Young People]

Students of Christian Science who have finished their courses at school or college and are ready to enter the business world, will find that the portion of their preparation obtained at a Christian Science Sunday School, or through the study of Christian Science literature, will play a very important part in their new undertakings. Those qualities which make up our character are bound to come forth for trial when academic learning is found insufficient to procure a job or to hold it when one is gotten.

Early in the study of Christian Science we learn that we cannot pray for material things, but for spiritual understanding. It is very important that we grasp this departure from the commonly accepted way of praying. The wisdom of Solomon was shown in his answer to God when he was appointed king over Israel, as is recorded in the first chapter of II Chronicles.

"In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee. And Solomon said unto God, ... Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people." The record continues: "And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, ... wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour."
