Signs of the Times

[From the Lakeside Farmer, California]

True thankfulness springs from no shallow source. It issues from the heart in touch with the infinite. Many times we find our spiritual forebears bursting into paeans of praise. Made joyful by the consciousness of God's presence, they break forth in words as did the Psalmist, "Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name."

To pick out certain material and national blessings and thank God for these does not touch the heart of thanksgiving. It may even become vain boasting. To render heartfelt thanks to the great Giver of all is Christlike.
