"Fresh opportunities every hour"
"Tireless Being, patient of man's procrastination, affords him fresh opportunities every hour" (Christian Healing, by Mrs. Eddy, p. 19). As one begins to realize the love of the tender, forgiving Father-Mother God, as revealed in these words, one approaches each hour in spiritually mental expectation. "Every hour!" he exclaims to himself. "This hour, then, has a fresh opportunity for me. I need not sit in sackcloth and ashes over past mistakes and opportunities unheeded. I do not have to look longingly into the future, hoping that it holds some good for me. I need only take advantage of the opportunities afforded me in this hour."
These opportunities may not always appear as such to one whose eyes are unaccustomed to seeing each experience as an opportunity to glorify God. The tasks of the home may sometimes appear menial, or simply wearisome drudgery. In the office the seeming monotony may hold one in a state of apathy or rush. The burdens of responsibility may loom large and forbidding, haunting one's thought. The body may seem to be in pain. With weary, despondent heart one might unbelievingly demand, What opportunity can this hour possibly hold for me?
That each one might utilize this truth, it was revealed to a blessed woman, whose loving pity and compassion led her to search the Scriptures prayerfully, and to live so close to the Father, that she could be receptive of the revelation of His tender love for His children, and give her elucidation of Christian Science for all to read, contemplate, and prove for themselves. This woman was Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. And one who reads her biography, written by Sibyl Wilbur, Lyman P. Powell, or E. Mary Ramsay, finds that his trials sink into insignificance before the seemingly insurmountable trials of that New England woman. And yet in the midst of many trials she found "fresh opportunities every hour" to prove in her own experience the power of Truth to overcome adverse conditions.
