"A standard for the people"

Our Saviour lifted up the truth
For weary souls who groped;
He taught and healed and comforted,
In meekness strove and hoped.

The eager, questing multitudes
From Tyre and Sidon came;
They traversed mount and plain to hear
This man of holy fame.

From mart and field and cottage came,
From bright Jerusalem,
The people wondered at the strange
New word he spake to them.

And Jesus bore a standard up
Of Truth and Love and Life,
That men be good and glad and whole—
The world be free of strife.

The Christ is lifted up today,
That seekers may behold
And know the healing ministry
The people knew of old.
