I have a yearning to express my thanks to God for a healing I had from asthma and nervous breakdown from a weak heart. For a long time I worked mentally as we are taught to in Christian Science, thinking I could overcome the trouble. But since the condition did not yield I thought I had better ask a practitioner to aid me. However, it grew worse all the time. Then one day the thought came to me, Maybe this work is for you to do after all. I wrote the practitioner and told him to discontinue the treatment. After a few days I had a spell so severe that I felt the end was near and I was hardly able to hold to the truth. My sister, who was with me, saw this and declared the truth aloud to me and soon I realized the meaning of the words and felt easier and could breathe again. In a few days the trouble all left me. Our Saviour's statement was then proved to me, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." I can hardly find words to convey my gratitude for this blessing.
I heard of Christian Science over thirty years ago, when my neighbor saw my distress. At that time, five or six doctors had pronounced me incurable. I tried Christian Science and was helped at once. The more I read of the literature, the better I understood it, and now I often wonder how I could do without it. It is indeed the Comforter which Christ Jesus promised us.
My desire is to be faithful and to live according to its teachings, letting my light so shine that others may see it and come to this truth. I thank God for this wonderful blessing, for our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and for all those who have helped me along the way. I am also glad for class instruction and the privilege of membership in The Mother Church.
