Signs of the Times

Topic: Church Worship

[Dr. J. Reid, in the Kent Messenger, Maidstone, England]

John Ruskin remarks in one of his penetrating comments, "I have seen over the doorway of many a church the words carved, 'This is the house of God.' "

And he asks us to notice where these words were first spoken. They were uttered by Jacob one morning on the moorland where he had seen the ladder and the angels. It was a bare spot, wind swept, and torrent bitten. But he met God there. Surely the conclusion is that God's house is not a particular building, but "any place where God house down His ladder."
