Many years ago, before knowing anything whatever...
Many years ago, before knowing anything whatever about Christian Science, I was taken to a Wednesday evening testimony meeting while on a visit to New York City. Apparently I was not ready for the blessings that a faithful study of this teaching brings to human experience, for what I heard that evening had the curious effect of filling me with antagonism towards this religion, and this attitude of bitter prejudice continued for several years.
Later, however, when I was in wretched health following a long period of nervous prostration, Christian Science was again offered to me. This time, because I had witnessed the wonderful healing of a relative suffering with serious eye trouble, the loving services of a practitioner were enlisted and study of the textbook was begun.
Though several prominent specialists had been consulted, they had not helped me out of my state of mental depression, constant sick headaches, and indigestion. And to add to my burden I was under such strict dietetic regime that I never enjoyed any meal.
