For what Christian Science has taught me, and is teaching...
For what Christian Science has taught me, and is teaching me daily, I am indeed grateful.
One of the healings for which I wish to express gratitude is that of an abnormal growth, which two very reputable surgeons had diagnosed and described as a tumor. After making an appointment with one of these doctors to have this tumor removed, I became thoroughly convinced of the fact that I did not desire surgical aid.
Prior to this awakening to the spiritual fact that God alone is sufficient to heal all our diseases, I had asked for help from a Christian Science practitioner, which was lovingly given me. But the condition had not yielded, and as I was young in the study of Science I had become very much discouraged. However, since the doctor could not tell me what would be the outcome of this operation, or if it would effect a permanent healing, I turned again to Christian Science and to this practitioner for help. As I now turned wholeheartedly to God and to the earnest study of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, many errors were discovered that needed to be destroyed. Patience had now manifested itself where before there had been impatience. A desire for real study had now taken the place of a mere half-hearted interest. Lurking in my consciousness was a belief of resentment and bitterness that was uncovered and destroyed. A few days after I had asked the practitioner to take up the work for me again, I came face to face with those against whom I had held so much bitterness. This belief of resentment and bitterness was the outcome of what I thought was an injustice that had been done me several years before over a business transaction. But what a joyous meeting this now was! That Love which liberates had filled my consciousness and all thoughts of resentment and bitterness had been destroyed. Love and joy now ruled where once hate and resentment reigned. The results were that the next morning when I awoke I found that the tumor had opened during the night, and the roots, which the doctor feared might not be easily destroyed, had passed from this opening entirely painlessly. This incision remained open for about ten days until it was free from all discharge. During this time no material means were used, and no antiseptic of any kind. There were no thoughts whatever of infection, as there might have been in the case of materia medica. In about ten days the condition had entirely healed, and today there is no indication of its having been there. This was indeed a case of mental surgery, painless and permanent.
