Divine Protection

Divine protection is assured to all who are conscious of spiritual truth. "When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee" (Isaiah 43:2). "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty" (Psalms 91:1).

Believing that man is material, and that he lives in a material universe governed by material law, mortals are subject to all kinds of untoward happenings. Sickness afflicts them; suffering and sorrow are their frequent lot; poverty often haunts their dwellings, causing joylessness and dread; and accidents are incidental to their experience. All of these inharmonious conditions are the result of the erroneous belief held by mortals that matter is real, that a material state of existence is true.

Now, as Christian Science shows, difficulties such as those to which reference has just been made will appear to confront mankind until they learn the truth of spiritual being and cease to believe that matter and evil are real. Mankind must therefore learn of God's—Spirit's—allness, His perfection and goodness, and the perfection of His spiritual idea, man; and that since God is perfect, no evil exists to vitiate true consciousness. Spiritual truth must be discerned, affirmed, realized, in order to ensure protection.
