The first time I attended a Wednesday evening testimony meeting in a Christian Science church, I was very much impressed by the silent prayer. Although I scarcely understood the grandeur of it, I felt the beneficial effect in a testimony which followed. The testifier spoke of a healing which had been brought about with God's help. I had undergone a serious operation for the same trouble, and immediately the thought came to me, "If I had known this Science I should not have submitted to an operation." In that very moment I accepted the truth.

For four years I had been having medical treatment for pulmonary tuberculosis, but without satisfactory results. Light rays, artificial respiration with oxygen, pharmaceutical remedies, fresh air cure—nothing changed my state of health. I then resolved to apply the little that I understood of Christian Science and I stopped taking medicines. I wrote to the doctor asking him to discontinue his visits.

A Science friend asked me to study the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly every day. I did this without always understanding it very well. On page 152 of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy writes, "Truth has a healing effect, even when not fully understood." This great truth did its work, and at the end of three months, in order to verify this healing, I saw the doctor again. He declared that I was completely healed, and expressed his surprise.
