Topic: The Pursuit of Religion

[Orien W. Fifer, in the Christian Advocate, Cincinnati, Ohio]

Some trees spread their roots wide but not deep. In favorable climatic conditions they stand upright and strong. Any sudden storm or great rainfall softening the earth and followed by strong and brutal winds, uproots them. In periods of excessive drought they slowly perish. Their roots find no hidden springs.

Other trees do not spread their roots so far but send them deep. They grow through the generations. They tower like patriarchs, sturdy, defiant, and enduring. They seem unmindful of stress of wind or scorching thirst. Their roots have found resources not affected by temporary hardships.
