The Wednesday Evening Meetings
Many of those present at the Wednesday evening meetings of the Churches of Christ, Scientist, are seeking physical healing; some, light on the solution of business, home, or school problems; while others are hoping to benefit by the relating of some unfoldment of Truth which has come to another in his study, perhaps relative to a Scriptural passage or a statement from one of Mrs. Eddy's books.
The Lord's Prayer, which is repeated early in the service, is indeed a treatment in itself to every receptive seeker for health and harmony. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 16) Mrs. Eddy speaks of Jesus' giving "that prayer which covers all human needs."
The order of service given in the Manual of The Mother Church (p. 122), under the heading "Wednesday Meetings," includes "experiences, testimonies, and remarks on Christian Science." As the writer pondered these words, the wisdom of our beloved Leader in including in these services remarks on Christian Science, as well as the privilege of relating experiences and testimonies, was seen. The importance of giving experiences and testimonies of healing is unquestionable, since many seekers for physical freedom are in attendance at these meetings, and the remarks on Christian Science, when wisely made, are often helpful. As one progresses in his study, the truth becomes to him not only a remedial agency, but a preventive of discord as well, so that his need for special healings is lessened by the protection which Christian Science becomes in his life. Therefore, helpful remarks may sometimes be made along these lines.
