Completeness

With loving solicitude Christian Science lifts the sense of incompleteness secretly oppressing so many individuals—incomplete health and happiness, intelligence and training with which to master difficulties and face the demands of daily life. Especially does this sense of incompleteness trouble those who are responsible for their own support and, in addition, that of a family. Personal sense argues the handicap of a weak character or constitution, advancing years, economic conditions, and the unaided human being stoops under the burden he has shouldered.

Christian Science throws a new light on such a situation. It reveals the impartiality of every divine bestowal and each one's completeness as Mind's individual idea. It teaches one how to demonstrate in practical ways the truth of Mrs. Eddy's statement in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 519), "Thus the ideas of God in universal being are complete and forever expressed, for Science reveals infinity and the fatherhood and motherhood of Love." Since "universal being" is complete, so is each one's individual spiritual being complete and "forever expressed." Nothing is lacking in the true manifestation of God. All good is eternally expressed; there is no such thing as suppression. A sense of incompleteness, then, is linked with a belief in lack of right expression. The remedy lies in staying with the fact that all the ideas of God are complete, and fully expressed. As Christian Scientists we must cease wantonly rehearsing the evil which we admit is but a false and fleeting belief. We must value the power of right affirmation.

One who faithfully stands for love and joy in place of self-pity, holiness and life instead of sin and death, finds his own God-bestowed completeness appearing in thought, speech, and action. He actively claims his birthright and thanks God for its constantly fuller expression. Vision and fidelity are part of man's completeness. If we have slackened in our drawing on God, we can always renew our faith, clarify our vision, multiply our strength, by dwelling more faithfully on the completeness of creator and creation. We can vigorously declare with John: "And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life." The door of demonstration is never shut against anyone.
