Symbols

Christian Science reveals the oneness and allness of God. An oft-repeated statement by Mrs. Eddy, "All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 468), ascribes to God, infinite Mind, completeness and all-inclusiveness.

As this illuminating truth comes into one's consciousness, the mist of obscurity as to the origin or source of all things real disappears, for an assurance is gained of the enduring nature of all that exists in divine Mind. Paul says, "The things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal." In every case, material appearances merely hint at divine, spiritual reality. Mrs. Eddy makes this very clear in an inspiring statement to be found on page 60 of her work "Miscellaneous Writings," where she says, "Every material belief hints the existence of spiritual reality."

The varied forms we seem to see expressed materially may be likened to "symbols." These may appear to vary, yet this does not in any way affect the perfect idea which they counterfeit. As human intelligence changes, so the symbol or counterfeit may change; but the source of all real being—the one perfect Mind—remains the same, as does Mind's creation.
