In your issue of June 14 [1935] appeared a report of a minister's sermon which revealed a misapprehension of Christian Science. Space is respectfully asked for correction.
"Ye shall know them by their fruits" is the infallible test by means of which Christ Jesus said that his followers would be judged. Thousands have turned to Christian Science as a last resort after other systems of healing had failed them, and they have found happiness, health, and a religion that meets their every need. Many Christian Scientists have been healed of diseases pronounced incurable by the medical profession, through the application of Christian Science.
Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, asks in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 342), "Shall it be denied that a system which works according to the Scriptures has Scriptural authority?" Since Christian Science does work "according to the Scriptures," it is not a religion of the devil, as averred by our critic, but is the same spiritually mental method of healing practiced by Christ Jesus nineteen hundred years ago.
