The Kingdom of Heaven and Demonstration

When Christ Jesus sent forth his students on a healing mission, he commanded them to preach the gospel of the kingdom of heaven and to heal the sick. When they returned "with joy," he lifted their sense of healing higher, saying, "Rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven." His words indicate that a knowledge of the kingdom of heaven is closely related to demonstration.

Christian Science is repeating the so-called miracles of early Christianity, and its healings are wrought through an understanding of the one Mind, God, and His perfect creation. Mind's government of its ideas constitutes heaven. A Christian Science demonstration is the result of the establishing of spiritual reality in the human consciousness.

Demonstration cannot be measured in terms of matter, for satisfaction with improved material conditions would tend to lessen further spiritual effort, and obstruct one's progress. The watchful student of Christian Science measures his success according to the spiritual unfoldment which he experiences. To him, a demonstration is not so much a personal benefaction as it is the satisfying proof of spiritual truth which is present to bless all mankind. He seeks to reflect spiritual substance rather than to get material ease. He strives to demonstrate the action of divine law; to become spiritually conscious of Soul's tangible presence; to spiritualize his thoughts. He knows that spiritual harmony is proved in the proportion that he turns from matter in his search for the kingdom of God.
