The slanting rays of the winter sun shone through the gold-glinting windows. The light touched the gilded organ pipes stretching across the front of the great auditorium, and glanced from the ends of the rich red mahogany pews.

The service opened with music set to the well-loved hymn "Shepherd, Show Me How to Go" (Poems, p. 14), by Mary Baker Eddy. This was in The Mother Church of the Christian Science denomination, and its great congregation sang joyfully:
