Twenty years have elapsed since Christian Science was...
Twenty years have elapsed since Christian Science was presented to my family, and during that period it has been our only physician. When it came to us I was to sense a very sick woman, in fact, according to medical science, there was no hope of a recovery from a physical ailment. For twenty-odd years previous to my acceptance of Christian Science I had suffered practically continuously, gradually becoming worse and worse. I had traveled to many parts of the world in search of healing, but all to no avail. Some of the finest specialists advised me that there was no hope for a recovery, as the whole organism of the body was misplaced and defaced. I had been drugged until there came a time when drugs were no longer effective, and it seemed as though nothing could be done to avert my passing on.
In my darkest hour a dear friend recommended Christian Science, so treatment was eagerly sought and a textbook purchased, and the members of my family read and endeavored to help in every way. During the first few weeks of treatment conditions seemed to become worse, so much so that it appeared as if Christian Science would not be effective in my case. Through perseverance and the patient, loving help of a practitioner this thought was destroyed, and I began to improve slowly. The healing did not come for many a long month, but soon I began to gather strength and to live a normal life, and was able to attend church services. Then one day I realized that the healing had taken place. As I had spent the majority of my days in bed, no one can fully realize what a joy it was to me to know that I was free, a well woman. With the healing came the desire to devote the whole of my life to helping others; and for many years I have been an active worker and have seen countless kinds of error or evil destroyed. It is wonderful to realize how much Christian Science can do for one, when one is really willing to be helped. Christian Science never fails; men may fail because of their unbelief, but God, Truth, never fails. I can add with a joyous heart that Christian Science, when rightly applied, has met my every need; and for the past fourteen years I have been able to demonstrate the whole of my supply, both spiritual and material, through the knowledge and application of this practical religion.
Words are inadequate to express my deep sense of gratitude for what Christian Science has done and is doing for me and mine. I can truly say I have seen "a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea." I am deeply grateful to the practitioner who was so loving and patient, and to all those who helped me to hold on. This testimony would remain incomplete did I not say how truly grateful I am for the unselfish life of our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and for Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, both of whom have made it possible for us to experience heaven on earth. My only desire is to be able to demonstrate more and more of that Mind which was in Christ Jesus, and to see my fellow man as God sees him, perfect.—
