After serving in France and Germany during the World War...
After serving in France and Germany during the World War I was discharged from the United States Army in 1919. For several years after my discharge I suffered from many discordant conditions. Possibly the worst of these was a case of very severe and constant head pains. I had gone to many physicians, but none of them offered me any relief. even temporarily. I had heard of Christian Science, but did not take any more stock in it than in other religions. I had tried most of the orthodox churches, hoping to find peace of mind, but none of them seemed to offer any hope, so I finally gave up any idea of help from that source.
One day an almost entire stranger told me I could be healed through Christian Science. I did not think such a thing possible, as the physicians had utterly failed to give me any relief. However, I bought a copy of Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy and started to read it. That was in February, 1925. Several months later I realized that I no longer suffered from those dreadful head pains. Just when the healing took place I never knew. There have been very few times in the past ten years that I have felt such pains, and when they have returned they have been soon overcome through the reading of Science and Health.
After my healing I dropped my regular reading and finally discontinued it altogether. Soon I seemed to have many more discordant conditions to meet, but never the head pains. I did not return to the physicians, but would take up my reading again, and within a few hours, or sometimes a few-days, the difficulty would disappear. Since February, 1925, God has been my only physician, but not until five years ago did I make a study, a daily study, of Christian Science.
