[Original testimony in German]
When my attention was called to the teachings of Christian Science,...
When my attention was called to the teachings of Christian Science, about five years ago, I was suffering from shortness of breath. This trouble had bothered me from my school days. I was so often in a state of dreading suffocation that I was weary of life. Various doctors by whom I was examined declared that my suffering was pure imagination, as my breathing organs were in perfect order. Nevertheless, every breath I drew tormented me.
At the beginning of my study of Christian Science I asked a practitioner to give me treatment. The battle between Truth and error went on for a considerable time, and often it seemed as if the healing would not take place at all. After about a year and a half, although I was not then under continuous treatment, the trouble finally yielded. I was completely freed from this harassing condition, and since then, over four years ago, the error has never reappeared.
I should like to tell of another experience, which showed me clearly how successfully we are able to solve problems of supply in Christian Science. As a temporary employee of the State I was given notice of dismissal. This notice seemed unjustified, and my office colleagues kept trying to stir me up against the action of the Administration. But I turned to Truth, and in conformity with the words of our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy (Science and Health, p. 17), "And Love is reflected in love," I thanked my superior for the position I had had for three years. Then I asked help of a practitioner.
Immediately after leaving the employ of the State I took more time for metaphysical work in order to solve my problem. I visited the Christian Science Reading Room daily from nine-thirty to twelve, and from two to about six, and studied more deeply than ever before the teachings of this religion. It may easily be understood that in this way I forgot the sense of being unemployed, for indeed I had plenty to do each day.
Through the loving support of the practitioner, who declared that God is the source of all activity and consequently that man, since he reflects God, can never be inactive, the problem was solved within a few days in a wonderful way. The manager of a private business asked the practitioner if she knew of anyone who could go to work for him immediately. The veil lifted and I began to see that here was the place which God had ordained for me. Gratefully I accepted the position, which was a temporary one. Later I was permanently employed, and today I testify with joy that I have found great satisfaction through this change in position.
I wish with all my heart to express my gratitude to Christian Science for such splendid results. I am happy to have found a practical religion, which teaches us how we may free ourselves from our troubles. I should not want to close my testimony without expressing my thanks to all those who have helped me in hard times, and I think of our beloved Leader with great reverence.
