Sweden.

In his recently published book called "The Third State-power," Dr. G. Bjurman, B.A., a prominent educator and chief editor of Pressens Tidning (a newspaper issued by and for circulation among the whole press of Sweden), in dealing with the world press writes, when describing the Monitor:

"Many newspapers started by idealists have failed in carrying out such a scheme as the Monitor's. But the Monitor itself has prospered by it. The paper is remarkably well edited. It is absolutely free from bigotry, is sound, moderate, and reasonable in its judgments, also far from hostile toward harmless wit—in contrast to the New York Times it carries a feature page, including a series of items 'In Lighter Vein'—but its joviality is not exaggerated. It is dignified but not dull; on the contrary, it is very interesting. ... To the educated public, wishing to gain a concept of what is of essential importance and signification within American life, the Monitor gives a representative selection of interesting, conscientious, moderately illustrated American news, and also much reliable news from the whole world, to a great extent emanating from its own correspondents, even in small countries. It also carries splendid synoptic articles regarding world politics, making these remarkably easy and interesting to follow. The editorials in the Monitor are usually four to six. In a spirit of wise reasoning, free from chauvinism and egotism, the paper unceasingly strives for justice between nations and for union among people. In its judgment on foreign politics it is very objective and cautious. It is not issued on Sundays but has a weekly supplement, beautifully illustrated, with famous writers from all over the world as contributors."
