Precious Promises

While studying the Scriptures in the light thrown upon them by Mrs. Eddy's writings, we find many passages assuring us of the protecting power and love of God. These "exceeding great and precious promises" shine like jewels, illuminating our understanding and stirring us to fresh endeavor, giving us a wider apprehension of man's real being as God's likeness.

It will be found, however, that many of the promises in the Bible are accompanied by conditions which must be fulfilled before we can experience the promised benefits. For example, the ninety-first Psalm breathes wonderful assurance of God's tender care and protection. Yet there may be those who feel that though they appreciate the beauty of these promises and long to experience their fulfillment, the evidence of the material senses seems almost overwhelming, and sorrow, strife, sin, and pain clamor for recognition.

How then may we avail ourselves of the assurances of deliverance from evil? How may we bring them into individual daily experience? The first words of the ninety-first Psalm reveal the way: "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty."
