"I go to prepare a place for you"

During the short period in which he was doing his wonderful works on earth, Jesus tried to make the disciples understand the omnipotence of God, Spirit. On one occasion he said to them, "I go to prepare a place for you." Many a one is looking forward with eagerness to this place, and those in difficult situations, particularly, hope to reach it quickly and there find peace, health, harmony.

To many, however, difficult circumstances seem almost insurmountable. According to human theories, this place is unattainable here on earth. Consequently, they fix their eyes on the hereafter. Through this mistaken attitude the inharmonious situation is, albeit unconsciously, perpetuated. Yet it is noticeable that although men are told that salvation is reached only in the hereafter, every possible means of present escape from sickness and death is sought, in spite of the fact that so-called death is generally believed to be the way out of human difficulties.

Here Christian Science points the way whereby mankind can solve the riddle of mortal existence and reach that place promised by the Master. It makes plain that Jesus' mission on earth was to show each one his place in God's plan—a place reached not through disease, suffering, or death, but through the abolition of these malevolent and unreal trials. This is made possible by acquiring the true understanding of God's love for man. Christian Science awakens us to the fact that Jesus never urged anyone to go away to some particular spot to regain health or strength, or to solve any problem.
