With a joyful heart and out of deepest gratitude I should like to bear witness to the blessings which my family and I have experienced almost daily since we have been studying the teachings of Christian Science. It is glorious to understand and to know that God is ever present, and that there is no circumstance in which divine Love cannot help us.

In November, 1933, I suddenly became ill with a bad case of tonsillitis and heart trouble. In spite of the fact that I tried to dislodge the error by reading in Science and Health and other Christian Science literature, it seemed impossible for me to think things through clearly. As soon as my mother heard of this she called up a practitioner, who immediately gave me absent treatment. After two days my throat was normal. However, a sense of fear brought about a relapse, and suddenly I had agonizing pains in my foot and knee joints. My body became swollen, I could not use one of my hands, and I had to lie quite stiff. Articular rheumatism of the worst sort seemed to be the claim. As daily work in Science was done for me, beneficent sleep soon came. My mother read to me often from our textbook, which always lifted my thought when I was despairing. Then the practitioner came to talk personally with me; and she made it wonderfully clear that as God's child I simply could not be sick, for God is never sick, and as His spiritual reflection I could express only health and strength. After that I had a wonderful sense of peace and my family was immediately freed from fear, which was of great consequence.

As I lay there alone I pondered everything which I had heard, especially the last words of this dear woman, "Now we leave you alone with God!" I felt that God was right there with me, and where God is there is no suffering! In God's kingdom there is no pain. I said out loud, again and again: "I thank Thee, dear God, that Thou art with me. Thou art my mainstay, my support, and all my strength!"
