Ullern Avis

In Ullern Avis of the 4th inst. there is an article entitled "Self-analysis," which contains some useful hints. What the writer in his article says about Christian Science, however, is not correct; wherefore I beg to ask space for a correction.

Christian Science is not based on the "fact that the best way of curing a pain is to forget the pain." This would be a poor foundation for a religion. Christian Science is built on the Bible, and its purpose is to "reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing" (Church Manual, p. 17). Christian healing is not gained simply by "forgetting the pain," but by prayer. As Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes in her book "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 1), "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God, —a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love."
