In December, 1912, I was suffering from neurasthenia in a very severe form, brought about by business worries. I had consulted four doctors at different times, without any real benefit. The last one advised me to take a rest. I spent two months at a hydropathic establishment, undergoing various treatments (water, massage, electric, and so forth), and was then given a certificate showing that I was fit for business. Within a week of my return, however, I was in a worse condition than before. At this point a friend asked me to try Christian Science. I procured a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. On reading the first two lines of Preface (p. vii), "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings," I realized that I had found something that was going to help me. Before I had read much of the book the desire to smoke left me entirely and has never returned.

I had treatment from a practitioner for the business problem, but it was some few weeks, before there was any result. Gradually, however, an improvement came about. Strong language, which I was in the habit of using, was given up; I was cheerful and happy, and slowly business conditions became more harmonious and were entirely healed.

Over three years ago I had an attack of shingles in a very severe form. At the request of my family, a doctor and a specialist were called in, as I had been delirious for two days, but just before they arrived a Christian Science practitioner came and gave me a treatment. When the doctors arrived I was quite normal and was able to answer their questions. That same day I went to a Christian Science House and was soon healed. I shall never forget or cease to be grateful for the love and kindness expressed by all in that house.
