For some time I have had a desire to express my gratitude...

For some time I have had a desire to express my gratitude for the blessings received in our home through the teachings and study of Christian Science. For many years I suffered from constant headaches, hemorrhoids, chilblains, and other discordant conditions. After my marriage we moved to a small town in Missouri, and I was very lonely and sick most of the time. Despite the serious need of healing for myself, I really became interested in Christian Science through my heartfelt desire to help a dear relative whose condition was so desperate that she was in a hospital; and the physicians attending her seemed at a loss to know what to do except to operate. I was possessed of an intense, unselfish desire to find help for her, and this unspoken prayer was answered by the "still small voice" saying, Why don't you try Christian Science? This came to me with such force that I immediately got in touch with a friend, whom I knew to be a student, and she lovingly advised me as to where to find a list of practitioners, and also gave me a Journal and Sentinel to read. The relative in whom I was so interested would not consent to treatment and passed on, but from the moment I started to read the literature I was joyously awakened as from a bad dream. Very soon I secured a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and began devouring its pages like one starved. Then one by one the physical ailments vanished.

During the past twenty-four years it has been a joy to look to God for all our help and never to be turned away; to experience a constant and adequate supply of all material needs; to prove that "God is everywhere, and nothing apart from Him is present or has power" (Science and Health, p. 473).

I should like to tell of an experience in which we were given the opportunity to prove that "neither age nor accident can interfere with the senses of Soul, and there are no other real senses" (ibid., p. 214). While crossing the street my husband was struck by an automobile. He was taken to an emergency hospital near by and was given first aid, after which I was advised of his condition. Treatment in Christian Science was requested at once. On my arrival at the hospital I was told that he must be moved to a regular hospital for suitable care and X rays, as he was seriously injured and they did not expect him to live until morning. He was conscious, however, and his condition began to improve rapidly through the work of the faithful practitioner. Within four hours we were able to secure his release from the hospital and take him to our home in an ambulance. Within a week he returned to his work. This was a remarkably quick healing and a beautiful experience for which I cannot express my gratitude in words.
