Demonstration

IN Christian Science the word "demonstration" has a spiritual signification and application which is becoming more and more generally recognized and better understood.

The improved human conditions through demonstration in Christian Science sometimes are mistaken as indicating that Christian Scientists demonstrate material things, but this is not the case. The Giver of all good, God, is Spirit, the very source of spirituality. He therefore does not and cannot give anything material, because matter is unknown to Him and is apparent only to mortal sense, which has no understanding of God, Spirit. Christian Science, being the correct, exact, absolute knowledge of God, is necessarily the Science of Spirit; and the application of its teachings refers to thought, not to material things or phenomena, since this Science clearly and consistently shows the unreality of matter and materiality.

When students of Christian Science feel the need of something, be it physical, mental, or spiritual, and apply this teaching to the solving of a pressing problem their thinking is clarified and cleansed from mortal and material beliefs, of doubt, fear, animality, and so forth. This corrected and uplifted thinking manifests itself in more harmonious surroundings, which may involve the acquisition or improvement of material objects. The change takes place in individual human consciousness, through spiritualization of thought, as Truth is acknowledged and understood as supreme, All-in-all.
