[Original testimony in German]
That "man's extremity is God's opportunity" was proved...
That "man's extremity is God's opportunity" was proved to be true when my head and shoulder were badly injured as a result of a window shutter falling from the second story of a house. Although I was covered with blood, there were loving thoughts surrounding me, and after a short time the bleeding ceased. When after a moment I was able to think again, I realized that the ever-present love of God was protecting me. Mrs. Eddy says on page 402 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," "The life of man is Mind." Since in Mind there can be no accident, there can be no effects from an accident. Fear tried to tell me otherwise, but by steadfastly rejecting thoughts of fear I was able to silence mortal mind and to fulfill the desire of my practitioner that I demonstrate the truth. I felt the power of the divine Word and began to give praise and thanks for the knowledge that God is omnipotent. Perfectly free, I was able to attend service the next morning.
Because of his liability insurance, the owner of the house requested me to go to the hospital, but my practitioner and I refused. Also, the insurance company asked for a doctor's certificate regarding the injury, but I did not feel that would be in accordance with my religion. Rather did I have my practitioner, who also witnessed the accident, make out a certificate, whereupon the entire amount that I might claim from the insurance company was paid without objection.
For this wonderful experience, which increased my understanding of the truth, I am indeed grateful. I also give sincere thanks to our beloved Leader for the teaching of Christian Science, and to the practitioner for her help and assistance. It is my earnest desire to become a faithful follower of Christ.—(Mrs.) Katharine Christine Rathgeber, Esslingen, Germany.
