In reply to your correspondent "Veritas" I would say it is a recognized fact today that Mary Baker Eddy is the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, and that her book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," has healed and is healing every known disease, redeeming the sinner, and binding up the broken-hearted. There is overwhelming evidence of this in the authenticated testimonies given in the Christian Science periodicals and at the testimony meetings held in all Christian Science churches. These healings are not brought about by autosuggestion, mesmerism, or hypnotism—that is, by the action or influence of the human mind, which is the cause of all disease and inharmony, but through the action of the divine Mind, God, good, as Christ Jesus so clearly explained when the same accusation was made against his healing method.

If Christian Science and Christian Scientists were taking people away from the Christian faith, then the warning given to your readers by another correspondent would be most timely and necessary. I recognize his sincerity, but I can truthfully assure him and your readers that such is not the case. Christian Scientists are busy striving to follow in the footsteps of our Master, to live the life that he lived, and to do the works that he promised us we should do. This is their chief concern. Christ Jesus made it abundantly clear that if we fail to demonstrate Christian healing to some degree, we do not understand his teaching. If we do not demonstrate the healing power of Truth, it is a proof that we have not understood the teaching of Christian Science, and therefore we are not in a position to criticize it.
